Places to Go, Thing to Do
We are in the heart of rural
Norfolk, and you are truly spoiled for choice at all times
of the year and in all weathers. The figures in brackets show
the approximate driving
time from Oyster House. We can help put you in touch with the
places mentioned before or during your stay, and hold brochures
for many
of them.

been chosen as the location for many famous
films.

opens to the public in summer months.

flagship property, while Oxburgh Hall (45
mins) and Felbrigg
Hall (45 mins) are also well worth a visit.
Holkham Hall (20 mins) is arguably the
finest Palladium mansion in Britain, while

Hall (5 mins) is equally worth seeing. |

How About Some Exercise?
 |
Rent a cycle (10 mins) at Bircham
Windmill and meander down Norfolk's peaceful
lanes, many so quiet
that there is grass growing in the middle of
them! If you are an experienced sailor, hire
a dinghy at Wells (20 mins). Golf is available
at Fakenham
(10 mins) and elsewhere. Norfolk is brilliant
walking country with plenty of footpaths plus
Coast path and the Roman Peddars Way (5 mins). |
Have a Change of Pace
This area of Norfolk is a bird
watcher's paradise. Sea birds share the sky
with rare
inland species such
as buzzards. There is a nature reserve at
Penthorpe (10 mins). Titchwell RSPB
and Holme Reserves are 20 minutes away on
the coast.
North Norfolk is home to many
artists and craftsmen, follow their example
and get your paintbox out - stunning landscapes
and big
skies are waiting for you.
For pilgrims,
Walsingham (15 mins) needs no introduction
and Norwich
boasts two cathedrals and many fine churches. |
 |
Enjoy Some History
 |
The castle and magnificent medieval
Priory at Castle Acre (15 mins) are brilliant
places for a picnic; or drive into Norwich (40
mins), wander round the famous 11th Century
Cathedral and stroll down unspoiled medieval
alleyways.
King's Lynn (15 mins) is stepped
in martime history, whilst Nelson's birthplace
is just down the road at Burham Thorpe (15 mins). |
Retail Therapy?

towns with a charming range of small shops;
Fakenham (10 mins) and Swaffham
(25 mins) all have fine weekly markets.

on Saturdays. Burham Market offers an opportunity
to browse or treat yourself to something special.
